MIX Application

The MIX application offers four program types: Summer Term, Fall Semester, Academic Year, and Spring Semester. Detailed timelines for each program—Fall, Summer, Academic Year, and Spring—are available [here] and on the MIX website under the How to Apply section.

To apply for a program, you will be directed to a Google Form where you'll provide:

  • Personal information (e.g., name, date of birth, phone number)

  • Academic details (e.g., major, minor)

  • Partner university preferences

  • Financial information

  • Passport details

  • Responses to short essay questions

You will also need to submit one academic letter of recommendation. The recommendation must be from someone who has taught you at UH Mānoa (e.g., Professor, Lecturer, Graduate Student, etc.). After submitting the form, the UH instructor you listed will automatically be notified to complete the recommendation.

MIX Nomination

A few months after the program application deadline, you will receive information about the university you were nominated to. For example, when I applied for Spring 2025, I submitted my application by May 1, 2024, and received my nomination in the first week of August 2024. While this was slightly later than the timeline MIX suggests, the process still proceeded smoothly.

Once nominated, MIX will provide several tasks to complete, such as:

  • Submitting the nomination form

  • Completing the MIX Pre-Departure Orientation Online Course

  • Attending the Welcome Orientation

A few weeks/months after your nomination, the host university will reach out with details about their secondary application process, which you’ll need to complete to officially apply to their school.
